PCB-UUCP
Merlin Systems has started its beta-testing program for its newest software
product, PCB-UUCP. Finally, a full-featured PCBoard-UUCP gateway has been
created!
PCB-UUCP will allow Pcboard BBS software to exchange mail with UUCP / RFC822 /
RFC1036 based systems. Thus allowing PCBoard users access to mail from the
Internet and USENET.
Some of its more outstanding features are:
private e-mail
- mail waiting flag set (optional)
- attached files (optional)
- seamless replies (You dont have to enter a To: line in the text of your
reply!)
- automatic convertion of 'postmaster' and 'root' to sysop's name
- routing of private mail to other systems
newsgroups
- automatically uncompresses & unbatches
- batches & compresses outgoing newsgroups (optionally)
- moderated newsgroups
- read-only newsgroups
- distribution of newsgroups to other systems (even your own newsgroups)
- 'Areafix' function for allowing your USENET neighbours to add/delete
newsgroups
- Archiving of newsgroup messages and/or attached files. Automatically
creates an entry in your PCBoard DIR file listings.
Bitnet mailing lists
- optional hosting of a mailing list
- automatic LISTSERV function (for people subscribing to your mailing
lists)
PCB-UUCP includes install and setup programs that are mouseable and contain

1 AreaFix is a FidoNet term that is used here to mean the
same thing. Basically, one of your neighbour systems can
drop/add newsgroups, distributed to them by you,
automatically without human intervention.
2 By optionally setting an incoming messages Echo Flag, it
is possible to cross-post messages from one network into
another. (ie. USENET <-> FidoNet/QWK/Pcrelay)
3 The LISTSERV feature enables a system to receive messages
addressed to listserv (a standard among Mailing Lists).
The feature will add/drop users from Mailing Lists that
are sourced locally.
4 This is nessecary to block users from subscribing to
mailling lists that can increase a systems Internet mail
volume dramatically.
5 With uuPCB, the user must enter the destination person's
address in his/her reply. PCB-UUCP handles the original
message's source address and message ID automatically for
replies.
6 Not including options found in PCBoard.
7 Anyone on the internet can send an email to LISTSERV at your
systems and ask for a list of files from one conference. They
can also ask for that file to be attached to a return message.
This is totaly optional and configurable.
